A new year resolves to be better than the last
The promise of change to nulify the past
Will I reach my goal? The die is cast
As my waist expands, I am struck aghast
Superficial list of things to accomplish
To travel more, to eat more fish
To pass a test, or be less prudish
When I should aspire to grant someone else's wish
I am overconcerned with improving me
As if who I am now isn't worthy to be
Why not focus on those who have less than me?
If I am unsatisfied, how must they be?
Why not get out and do the world some good?
I can volunteer, clean up my neighbourhood
Do all the things that I really should
I resolve to begin as I said I would.
And I just did.
